Mark Chubb

Mark Chubb directs public safety leadership programs for the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government's Executive Leadership Institute at Portland State University. He has more than 25 years of experience as a fire chief, fire engineer and fire safety consultant in the public, private and non-profit sectors both in the United States and New Zealand. Before joining the faculty of Portland State, Chubb served as the chief fire officer of Christchurch, New Zealand. From 1993 to 1999, he worked for the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs in Birmingham, Ala., where he played a leadership role in the national effort to develop a single integrated set of model codes governing safety in the built environment. In the early 1990s, Chubb was a lead investigator for the U.S. Fire Administration major fires investigation project and produced several widely referenced reports on significant incidents. He earned a graduate certificate in management from the Australian Institute of Police Management, a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland University College and a master's degree in public policy from Victoria University of Wellington. Chubb actively participates in a number of professional organizations including the Institution of Fire Engineers, American Society of Public Administration, New Zealand Institute of Management, and the Institute of Public Administration of New Zealand.
